Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic totally inert, wood and steel construction drill round for the USN 3 in./50 calibers QF gun that weighs about 21lbs., and measures 32 1/2” in length.
The round is in very good condition and is weighted to match a live shell for accurate training handling purposes. The base plate is is black painted steel, and while faint, the markings on the bottom can be read:
329486-B-6 BFT HMC 1944
MK. 6 50 CAL 3" DUMMY CARTRIDGE
The wood condition is great, with a lovely color, though there is some light cracking in the main body due to age. This example also features a wooden dummy fuse with a metal interior. The round does look to have been lacquered at some point during its life, though we do not know if this happened during or after service.
This is a great piece of World War II artillery and naval memorabilia which will make a very impressive display!
The round was never intended to be used as an explosive device and was used solely as a training round and was never filled with explosives. It is in total compliance with the current BATF standards governing inert ordnance. Though this was never a destructive device as outlined by the BATF, due to its appearance it is not available for export.
