Item Description
Original Items. Only One Pair Available. This is a great pair of Japanese field gear items, both complete with great markings.
The Zatsumo haversack is in great shape with its carrying strap well-retained, as well as the metal hook on the back. The securing straps are all present as well, and there are even original issue markings on the interior! There looks to be a maker marking, along with a date marking of 昭 18 or Showa 18, for the Western year 1943.
The canteen is in great shape with the wood stopper still integrated into the suspension system. This type of stopper replaced the earlier metal and cork version, and was made of a soft wood plug with a hardwood top. These are rarer to see, especially in nice intact condition with all of the harness intact. There are some stampings on the harness and carry strap, but they are not legible. The bottom of the canteen bears a maker mark and date marking of 昭 一 七, or Showa 1 7, which corresponds to Western year 1942. These were usually made in during the 1941-1942 period.
The Zatsumo bag is very difficult to find in its original condition like this. This is a great pair of mid-war dated Japanese items, ready for further research and display!
