Item Description
Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a really tremendous banner used to welcome George F. Raw to a meeting of the Filipino Federation Delegates of Hawaii. We haven’t been able to find any information on Raw, so the banner may have a misspelling, or there just isn’t much information on him.
The banner reads:
WELCOME
GEORGE F. RAW
COMMANDER U.S. NAVY
AND
COMMANDER OF THE PHILIPPINE
GUERILAS DURING THE JAPANESE
OCCUPATION OF THE PHILIPPINES
FILIPINO FEDERATION DELEGATES OF HAWAII
The meeting was certainly held after WWII, possibly in the late 1940s or 1950s. The banner measures 35 x 66” and has been folded a lot, but doesn’t have any grommets by which to hang it. There is also some staining and dirt on the banner.
We are unsure who exactly George F. Raw was, but there isn’t much reference to him online. This would be a fantastic research project for someone! The banner is certainly period, and there is much to be found about its meaning.
Comes ready for further research and display!
