Item Description

Original Item: Only one available. This is a very nice U.S. Four Star General's Military vehicle identification fender plate, appearing to be from World War II. It is crudely made and hand-painted, with two punched holes at the top for affixation. Instead of the proper construction, it is painted with four white stars instead of the stars being affixed. It measures 4½ x 10⅝”, instead of the standard 9" x 6" that the U.S. army uses for their vehicle rank plates. This leads us to believe it was a field-made piece. Condition is good, with just a few small areas of missing paint. There appears to be some writing which has worn away.

Plates such as this were for use on military vehicles, usually a Jeep or other small vehicle, to indicate that it was carrying a "flag officer", which was an army officer of high enough rank to fly a flag from the location of their command. In this case, the plate represents the "flag" while the officer was in the vehicle, which would have a holder attached to the fender.
