Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This fine World War II United States Coast Guard officer visor hat features a fins metal cap badge, patent leather strap and visor. Inside is an original manufacturer’s label. Construction materials include: Wicker, punched leather, patent leather, silk ribbon, plated brass, paper, cellophane. The cap is named on the interior tag to LTJG John L. Smithson, P.O. Box 261, Ventura, Calif. We have conducted no research on this soldier, making for a fantastic research project.
The cap has a Bancroft “Pak-Cap” and is in great shape overall.
The cap shows no major defects and is in overall very good condition with slight discoloration in spots and some wear. The hat is stamped Size 7¼ under the sweatband. A great piece, ready for further research and display.
