Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an interesting Federal Issue Cartridge Box which has certainly seen some service during the American Civil War! This is a genuine Federal Issue leather Pattern 1855 .58 Caliber Cartridge Box which retains both the original tins and the wooden cartridge blocks inside!
The primary flap is rather stiff and is missing the box plate as shown. Both original matching cartridge tins as well as both original wooden cartridge blocks are present. The outer flap is also missing the securing strap, but the knob is still present underneath. The interior flap still works fine, and the tool pouch is also intact with the flap and closure tab.
The leather shows heavy signs of aging with heavy flaking across. There are no roller buckles on this example, and it appears to have never had one. Both belt loops are intact on the back, although cracked and crazed.
This is an excellent example of a classic piece of Civil War field equipment. They are very difficult to find with the original cartridge blocks, so don’t miss out.
