Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice U.S. Marine Corps Forest Green "Bell Crown" visor cap, intended to be worn by Enlisted Men. The name comes from the pronounced flare out towards the top of the cap. This cap is summer weight, and is constructed of wool fabric stretched over a wicker inner frame. It is a great WWI Era OD green color, which has more tan than later variants used in WWII. This is a very difficult piece of headgear to find in Forest Green.

The cap features a lacquered fabric brim, probably supported by pressed paper or fabric. The pebbled brown leather sweatband is stitched to the body of the hat, and is still in great condition, meaning this is likely a private purchase example. The front of the cap bears the correct era bronze EGA (Eagle, Globe, Anchor), which has always been with the cap, and a brown leather adjustable chinstrap with two USMC side buttons. There is no size marking in the cap, but it is roughly Size 7⅜. There is scattered mothing on the rear of the cap and a couple spots on the crown, but this isn’t very noticeable.

The only major flaw with this example is the staining on the leather visor on the right, and two smaller spots to the left. Otherwise, this is a great example of a very scarce U.S.M.C. Forest Green P1912 Bell Crown. Don’t miss it!
