Original WWI Swiss Schmidt-Rubin M1889/99 Knife Bayonet by Waffenfabrik Neuhausen with Scabbard & Frog

Regular price $295.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a great example of the knife bayonet issued with the Swiss Straight Pull Bolt-action 7.5mm Schmidt-Rubin M1889/96 rifle, as well as the M1911 rifle and carbine. It is very similar in form to the U.S. bayonet for the Krag-Jørgensen Rifle.

This example is in great condition, fully "in the white", though the blade does look to have been arsenal resurfaced, which has made the maker mark on the ricasso somewhat faint:

WAFFENFABRIK
NEUHAUSEN

The name simply translates to "Weapons Factory Neuhausen," which was one of the primary edged weapon suppliers in the first half of the 20th century. There is a Swiss Cross proof mark on the top of the cross guard, as well as serial number 415846, which indicates the gun it was matched to while in service.

There is only a small area of light staining on the hilt, which is otherwise all bright steel. The grips are excellent with just some tiny indentations in areas, and the latch works perfectly. No issues to speak of. The scabbard, which was originally blued steel, now has a worn patina on the outside, which looks to be from years of careful cleaning. The scabbard is held in a very nice sturdy leather frog, which is maker marked on the back.

A very good example of a hard to find bayonet, complete with a steel scabbard and frog, ready to display!
