Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a relatively early Officer's French double barreled side by side flintlock pistol, with all iron mounts. The pistol is fitted with 7" slightly tapered .63" barrels with a fore sight mounted on the central barrel rib. It features an iron "eared" butt cap with heavily engraved pommel and a similarly decorated trigger guard. The pistol retains its original iron mounted wood ram rod of 6 1/2" length, with iron ramrod to front and the rear end is fitted with a ball extractor with coiled head.
The pistol is full stocked in Walnut with an ebony wood nose cap, has inlaid Silver wire inlay around wood carvings of flowers behind the tang, an often seen French form of adornment. Solid 13 1/2" in overall length which feels wonderful in the hand. Both locks function correctly, holding at half cock, and firing at full. The right frizzen is a bit loose on the spring. The stock has a few areas of minor stock repair around some of the pins, and a small inserted splice, old expert repair by the nose cap. but overall its in great solid shape and 98% original.
This certainly may have taken part in the Revolutionary War and possibly carried by an Officer of Washington's Continental Army.
Fully cleaned and well preserved, from a great Collection of flintlock pistols recently acquired by IMA. Ready to display!
