Original Item: Only One Available. For a reference of a virtually identical Jaeger rifle, see the wonderful reference book BATTLE WEAPONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION by George C. Neumann Page 226. He writes that an estimated 4,000 such short rifles accompanied the Jaeger troops during the American Revolution. The illustrated rifle on page 226 can be found in the permanent collection of the West Point Museum.
This rifle is almost identical in all respects to the one in the book except that the lock plate is marked Potzdam not Pistor.
The rifle features:
seven groove rifling
a built in cheek piece to the butt
sliding patch box
open trigger guard
no bridle on the powder pan
all brass mounts
cock shows old repair
rear of the barrel has multiple German proof or maker markings
overall length is approximately 44
Offered in fine condition and extremely rare as it dates between 1760 -1780 and very probably saw action in the Revolutionary War.
