Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Belgium as we know it today was only established in 1830, when the population rebelled against Dutch rule. Prior to that, most of the country had been known as Flanders and other local areas, which were possessions of Spain, France and Holland over the prior several hundreds of years. After the final defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte the territory was considered to be part of Holland, or the Netherlands as we call it today. This lasted only 15 years until 1830.
Belgium was an Industrial powerhouse with its great capacity coming from the City of LIEGE, where gun making was a key industry supplying Military Weapons all over Europe.
The Flintlock pistol offered here comes from LIEGE and dates just after 1815. Pistols of this type were in wide use in Belgium itself, as well as other Countries and the Civilian Market. There is slight wood loss to the left side of the fore end but only a sliver, easy to repair or easy to live with. This is a substantial brass mounted walnut stocked completely standard Military Flintlock Pistol of the day. The metalwork on the pistol is completely unmarked, without even an import marking.
In the 1920's these very pistols were advertised by BANNERMAN'S of New York for under $30.00. per unit. Times certainly have changed. At that time a Sharp's Civil War Carbine cost just $ 4.00. a piece!
Our example is in very good condition, with the lock functioning correctly, holding at half cock and firing at fully. Fully cleaned and ready to display!
