Original Belgian Percussion Pocket Pistol with Liège Proofmark - Circa 1840

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is where most Antique pistol Collectors begin! These little percussion pocket single shot pistols were always available for little money, but in the day in the cold evenings of any large City anywhere in the World, these have provided an essential service for self protection. Whether you were a Bank President or a Lady of the Night having this little guy tucked in your belt, be it waist or garter, it was a big equalizer to combat Foot Pads and other villains.

This little chap is just 6 3/4" in overall length with an iron turn-off barrel with a smooth bore about the size of .48" that could take anyone's attention. It is minimally engraved on both sides of the frame and has a plain wood "bag" grip. On the end of the receiver there is an E.L.G. in an oval, indicating it was originally manufactured in Liège, Belgium, for the European market, as well as serial number 192

The barrel is just three inches in length and interestingly has THREE distinct notches marked along the top. Maybe this really has been of service to a Damsel in Distress.

Coming to us from a collection put together in the 1950's and 1960's this has not seen the light of day for over 50 years. As it came out of the attic, a "SLEEPER" ready for some TLC and ready to display.
