Original British 20th Century Scots Guards Bearskin Helmet with Chin Scales - Size 7 1/8

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The Scots Guards are best known for being on parade around Buckingham Palace. Raised in 1642 by King Charles I and fully recognized in 1686 this is one of the oldest regiments in the British Army. The units are easily recognizable by the large bearskin helmets that they wear, and this is a really nice example.

It most likely dates from the 1960s-1970s, and has the standard wicker basket inside supporting the bear skin. The helmet still retains it's original heavy brass chin scales, with both attachment hooks inside the helmet intact. The original helmet manufacture label degraded at some point, but it does have a handwritten label with size 7 1/8 written on it. Overall condition is very nice, with little wear or degradation.

The Scots Guards were intended for the center of the line, so they wore no horse hair hackles in their helmets, unlike the four other Guards Regiments making up the Guards Division.

Original Government surplus, released in the 1980s, in ready to display condition.
