Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. We have not had one of these for over ten years! This bayonet was designed for the Lee-Enfield No.5 MkI Jungle Carbine, which had a large flash hider that prevented earlier bayonets from fitting. The bayonet was also used with the 9 mm Sterling L2 submachine gun. This is totally original British Military production and is marked "Circled P" 1947 at the base of the blade. This is the marking of the Royal Ordinance Factory at Poole, who produced a large number of these bayonets in the post war period. This is the second model of the No.5 Bayonet with two grip screws; the extremely rare MkI had the grip secured by a single screw and a press stud without the screw slot.
The bayonet has a 7 3/4 inch "bowie" style clip-point blade, with a wide fuller running down each side, with an overall length of 12 inches. Unlike most bayonets, the wooden grip scales wrap completely around the tang. Comes complete with a correct steel-throated scabbard. Scabbards produced from the 50s onward had large brass throats.
In very condition, this bayonet appears almost un-issued with just storage wear. These are quite hard to find today. Ready to display.
