Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This was purpose built, most probably for the HUDSON BAY COMPANY, to supply the indigenous population in North America to assist in the FUR TRADE. Dating to probably 1812 or shortly thereafter, this musket is of Fusil bore and size probably about .55 bore. It is based on a down sized Brown Bess with walnut stock and Brown Bess brass mounts.
The trigger guard is somewhat bigger to allow use while wearing gloves in the extreme cold of winter. The 35" barrel bears British Proof Marks from the Gun making city of Birmingham. It also is marked W.L.S. between the proofs, which we have not been able to identify. Probably one of the multitude of gunsmiths in the Birmingham area. The tail end of the lock is stamped WARRANTED. Overall length of the musket is 50 1/2".
In amazingly good condition and ready to display!
