Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very nice Napoleonic War era Officer's flintlock pistol, with a lovely half-octagonal brass barrel, which is marked LONDON. The size and shape is somewhat reduced, which would make it easier to keep on the inside of a coat, as well as making it weigh less. There is no butt cap, and it is all brass mounted, with lovely engravings.
The lock on this example is marked SHARPE / & / KEENE, indicating that this pistol was produced as a collaboration between two prominent Gunsmiths of the era: William Keene of Birmingham (1808-1815) and Joseph Sharpe of London 1800-1840. This explains why the brass barrel has pre-1813 Birmingham proofs, but is marked "LONDON". The lock is very well executed, with light engraving and a great style. The barrel has some very nice engraving around the tang, as well as on the breech of the barrel
The stock is quite nice, with a lovely color, no evidence of major repairs, and lovely checkering around the "bag" grip. There is a very nice horn-tipped ramrod held in placed under the barrel, which has a "screw" on the other end for removing a stuck ball or charge. The lock functions, though the tumbler is worn, so it does not have a half-cock position at present.
A very nice Napoleonic era Officer's Flintlock Pistol that would enhance any Collection. Ready to display!
