Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very nice American Revolutionary War era Officer's flintlock pistol, with a brass barrel. The size and shape is somewhat reduced, which would make it easier to keep on the inside of a coat, as well as making it weigh less. There is no butt cap, and it is all brass mounted. There is an escutcheon on the wrist, which looks to have been monogrammed, but it is worn and cannot be quite read correctly.
The lock on this example is marked Williams, for Benjamin Williams, who had a shop in Birmingham, working from 1767 until 1815. The lock has a very nice roller frizzen spring, which helped to reduce wear, and made it less likely that the pan would fail to open. The pan also has the extra support for the frizzen, which did not make it into official patterns until later.
The barrel is a very nice half-octagonal, half-round design, and has Pre-1813 Birmingham area proof marks, correct for this maker and time period. The pistol is in very good shape, though it does have some cracks in the stock, which have been repaired. There are also a few areas where wood has been replaced. The lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full.
A very nice Revolutionary War Era Officer's Flintlock Pistol that would enhance any Collection. Ready to display!
