Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Richard W. Hollis of London was well known Gun Maker, who produced many fine sporting guns when he worked from 1790 to 1850. This fine Sporting Percussion gun was made in the early Victorian period, circa 1835 - 1845.
The 31 inch long barrel is octagonal for the first third of the way up the barrel turning to round on up to the muzzle. The Walnut stock is exceptionally nice and the butt plate and trigger guard are engraved iron. The nose cap and escutcheon which appears under the stock are both silver or German silver. The lock is marked RICHD HOLLIS, and the top of the barrel is marked LONDON. There are also some personalized initials and numbers after this, but we are not able to decipher them.
The weapon measures 46" in overall length and comes complete with a very interesting wooden ramrod which has been bound in cord and then stained giving a very effective barber's pole effect.
The left side of the lock has a carving of a Deer in a wood cut into it and the butt stock has some nickel thumb tacks added for decoration, perhaps the work of an American Indian. Lock functions but does not hold correctly at half cock. In basically truly nice condition, ready to display!
