Original Item: Only One Available. The frock coat is a collared man’s coat worn through the eighteenth to the twentieth century. It rose to prominence mainly in the nineteenth century, especially Victorian England. It is characterized as a knee-length overcoat, buttoned down to the waist, that drapes over the lower half of the body like a skirt.

This example is most likely a British medical officer Victorian era (pre-1902) frock coat in black cloth. It features a lay down collar with braid, embroidered cuffs indicating the rank of Lieutenant, Austrian knot design to sleeves, eight rows of drops and loops and double corded toggles, two rear pockets with braid decoration.
