Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice British Victorian Cut-Down Cavalry lance, as used by many famous "Lancer" regiments during the 19th century. Originally much longer, it now measures 45 3/4" long, with a 8 1/2" hollow ground spear blade. This is connected to a socket which has 21 inch long langets going down the haft of the spear, which now measures 35 inches long. The socket is marked with ENFIELD and a British BROAD ARROW marking, indicating manufacture by the Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield Lock.
While well constructed, these were not intended for heavy use, as indicated by the haft being just about 1 inch in diameter. More important was the display, and there are two "keyhole" shaped inlets in the langet on one side, where a rigid pennant was most likely installed. Aside from shortening, there also is a hole drilled through the haft, which we assume was for display.
A great Victorian Era relic from the days of mounted cavalry. Ready to display!
