Original British WWI Inscribed Middlesex Regimental M1855 British Duty Bugle

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The First World War that started 100 years ago this month was initially a very patriotic war. All sorts of regiments were raised, expanded and added volunteer battalions to help in the "Great Crusade" using the catch phrase, IT'LL ALL BE OVER BY CHRISTMAS! How wrong they were.

This is a true regimental bugle, of perfectly standard brass and copper construction given to the regiment by-

CORPORAL A. CULY

C COMPANY, 1ST

BATTALION OF THE MIDDLESEX VOLUNTEER REGIMENT

(As it happens, the Grandfather of Christian Cranmer, IMA’s owner, was a major in the 2nd 8th Middlesex volunteers during the same conflict and he still retains the regimentally painted side drum given by his Grandfather that was returned to him when the war ended.)

The Bugle is also engraved-

THE GREAT EUROPEAN WAR 1914-1917

THIS BUGLE WILL BE RETURNED TO THE DONOR ON THE DISBANDMENT OF THE BATTALION

The Middlesex was one of the largest British regiments in WW1, in fact, it was this regiment that was the very first to action in Belgium in August 1914.

This Bugle, which is totally authentic, has lain in an attic for nearly 75 years and has the expected dings and dents from field use, though still is fully functional. It also retains its correct original green regimental bugle cord, a documented original item that was undoubtedly really in the trenches during that awful conflict. Unrestored, just as we found it, and ready to display or wake the neighborhood with.
