Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Measuring 37 x 25" this is a virtually unissued trench map copy given to allied commanders in the field. This map is dated to August 15th, 1916. It is framed in a natural light wood frame and glazed in a plastic sheet.
The map shows the known positions of the German (enemy) trenches as of a specific date. In July 1916 as part of the Battle of the Somme, the 51st Highland Division assaulted the Beaumont-Hamel position and again the 13th of November 1916 the position was the subject of another major assault, this time by the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. The trench maps never showed the allied trench positions just in case they fell into enemy hands.
This map is nicely marked G.S.G.S. 3062 which is a well known series of 1:10,000 maps of France in World War One.
A nice well presented trench map in truly excellent condition!
