Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. The East Lancashire Regiment was, from 1881 to 1958, a line infantry regiment of the British Army. The regiment was formed in 1881 under the Childers Reforms by the amalgamation of the 30th (Cambridgeshire) Regiment of Foot and 59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot with the militia and rifle volunteer units of eastern Lancashire. The East Lancashire Regiment was increased in size for the duration of the Second World War, although not to such an extent as in 1914–1918. Firstly, prior to the outbreak of hostilities in 1939, the entire Territorial Army was doubled in size, with each unit forming a duplicate. Secondly, a number of wartime battalions were formed.
This is a lovely British Battledress uniform for a Lance Corporal in the East Lancashire regiment, as indicated by the sleeve insignia. There are unit tabs on both shoulders with the rank of Lance Corporal below them, each with a small red stripe stitched above them.
The uniform still retains its original size & manufacture tag, having been manufactured by John Hammond & Co. Ltd. in 1945, with an issue date of June 1945.
A great example, ready for further research and display!
