Original British WWII Rose Top London Metropolitan Police Bobby Helmet - George VI Marked

Item Description

Original Item: One Only. The Traditional Bobby helmet was named after the creator of the British Police Force, SIR ROBERT PEEL, who became Prime Minister under Queen Victoria. This early version, known as a "Rose Top," features a blacked brass top fitting, in the shape of a rose, hence the name. The front Helmet plate has a King's Crown to top, over a star burst containing a silver G VI R Royal Cypher, for King George VI, who reigned 1936 to 1952. There is a circle around the cypher which reads METROPOLITAN / POLICE.

The chin strap and liner are unfortunately completely missing, having been removed long ago, as they were not needed for display. The helmet is also slightly oblong shaped, but will easily conform to a mannequin head. The exterior dark blue felt covering is in very good condition, with just a bit of staining, and no major moth damage.

Completely authentic to the WWII Period, from the London Police force known as THE MET. In very good condition, ready to display!
