Original Brown Bess Type Musket Converted to Percussion Half Stock Trade Gun circa 1835 - As Found

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This came from our purchase of some 200 forgotten Antique long guns, kept in storage for well over 100 years, many of which are being offered in as found condition. The particular example may well have started life as a Flintlock Brown Bess type Musket, which was then cut down into a Percussion converted Trade Musket. It was put away in a shameful condition and even after its 100 years plus storage has not improved a bit, with the exception of some modern screws and bolts.

The lock markings are all gone, the Brown Bess type Butt plate and "S" side plate are now of iron. The brass brown Bess style 3rd model trigger guard is only half there, having the rear 4" that lies against the underside of the stock removed and the channel filled. There are four home made light metal barrel bands that hold the barrel in place and the forward one also has a loop for the ram rod.

Certainly a Frontier gun this may well have fallen into Indian hands but shows no Indian decoration whatsoever. Genuinely old, the .75 bore Brown Bess barrel has now been shortened to 32" from its original 39". Action still operates.

A project gun or a great romantic Frontier Musket for display!
