Original Chinese Short Sword Brought Back by Missionary with Story

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. We just received this lovely ornate Chinese short sword from the estate of a collector. It is really quite nice, with a beautiful hand carved Dragon handle and scabbard. It has a very nice 9 1/4 inch long Tanto-style single edged blade, made in the Japanese style with a faux temper line. The shot sword measures 15 1/2 inches overall, and is 18 inches long in the scabbard. The dragon's head is highlighted with some bone inlays as well as what look to be glass eyes. Truly a lovely piece!

What makes it even more interesting though is the story that comes with it.  Per the tag attached to the sword, it was brought back during the Chinese revolution by a missionary, who took it from a warrior threatening his life:

SHORT SWORD OF CHINA REVOLUTION. TAKEN BY THOMAS HOMES, A CHINESE MISSIONARY FROM ALFRED NY, FROM A WARRIOR THREATENING HIS WIFE. HOMES WAS A COUSIN OF CLARENCE MAXON OF ROCHESTER NY. MAXON WAS GIVEN THE SWORD BY HOLMES. MAXON LATER GAVE THE SWORD TO P OSTERLING. CARVED WOOD GRIPS AND SCABBARD IN FORM OF DRAGON.

Whether this story is true or not is something we leave for the purchaser to decide. Even without the story it is a lovely piece. Ready to display!
