  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice original Dutch Model 1895 Mannlicher rifle bayonet manufactured at Hembrug, complete with its original leather scabbard and integral belt frog. The bayonet retains its distinctive long T-back blade, wooden grip scales, muzzle ring, and Dutch inspection and serial markings.

The blade measures approximately 13¾ inches long, with an overall bayonet length of approximately 18⅝ inches. These dimensions identify this example as the standard M1895 rifle bayonet, rather than the much longer bayonet used with the No. 3 and No. 4 Mannlicher carbines.

The cross guard is marked with serial number 8697 A, and the body of the blade with HEMBRUG. This was the trademark of Artillerie Inrichtingen, in Zaandam, referring to a swing bridge across the North Sea Canal that provided railroad access to the factory. This company began production of these bayonets in 1904, where previously foreign contractors had been used. There is also a CROWN / O proof mark on the ricasso, for the inspector that passed it.

The bayonet and scabbard are in good condition, showing light wear and some age-related deterioration. The securing strap of the frog is entirely broken and the frog itself is heavily cracking and crazing.

The Dutch M1895 Mannlicher rifle and its bayonet remained important components of Netherlands military equipment from the late 19th century through the opening stages of World War II. The M1895 family served with the Royal Netherlands Army and related Dutch forces for decades, and Hembrug production reflects the Netherlands’ transition from reliance on foreign arms contractors to domestic manufacture at the state arsenal.

The combination of the HEMBRUG manufacturer marking, 8697 A serial, Crown/O inspection stamp, correct 13¾-inch T-back rifle blade, and original leather scabbard with integral frog makes this a strong representative example of the standard Dutch M1895 Mannlicher rifle bayonet.
