Item Description

Original Item: Very Few Available. The National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands (Dutch: Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging in Nederland  or NSB) was a Dutch fascist and later NSDAP related political organization that eventually became a political party. As a parliamentary party participating in legislative elections, the NSB had some success during the 1930s. After the breakout of WWII, the NSB advocated strict neutrality, however after the German invasion and Dutch defeat, they openly collaborated with the occupying forces.

It became the only legal party in the Netherlands during most of the Second World War, and membership grew to about 100,000. The party gained almost complete control of local government, with every mayor being also a member of the NSB. The organization chose the "Wolfsangel" (Wolf's Hook) as their symbol, which was used as an early symbol of German liberty and independence after its adoption as an emblem in various peasant revolts and wars. Like many old symbols, it was co-opted by the NSDAP and other Fascist organizations, and gained new meaning.

We have acquired a very small number of the brass "Wolfsangel" pins, which measure approximately 1 inch long, and have a safety pin attachment on the back. These were attached to clothing to indicate that the wearer was a collaborator / sympathizer with the occupying German forces. They are in very good condition, showing some light oxidation and patination from age.
