Original Early 19th Century Ottoman Flintlock Holster Pistol with Embossed Silver Butt Decorations & Coral Inlays - circa 1800

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely OTTOMAN flintlock holster pistol made to follow European lines, clearly having belonged to someone of significance being so well adorned. It has a lovely wood stock with, which looks like it may originally have been made with all iron fittings. However it has been embellished with a lovely embossed sheet silver wrapping on the muzzle of the barrel, and the butt cap is now of lovely engraved silver with additional silver adornments affixed to it. The area around the barrel tang was fitted with embossed silver, and the wrist of the stock has a very ornate decoration, with lots of filigree work and some lovely coral inlays. Definitely a very high level of artistry displayed on this pistol!

There also was originally some very nice engraving on the 12" barrel, which is octagonal close to the breech. The iron lock plate, side plate, and trigger guard also have some great engraving. Often referred to as a Mediterranean Pirate's Flintlock Pistol, this example is definitely well above that. The silver butt cap has the usual long ears, and the trigger guard goes almost all the way to the butt cap, though it is missing the forward portion. The pistol measures 19 ½" in over all length, around the length we typically see.

Copying the western Style, the pistol displays a "faux" ramrod which is not intended for use, in this case as part of the embossed silver cladding on the muzzle end of the barrel. The sheet metal is partly torn away, and while there is an iron ramrod pipe next to it, this was purely for decoration. The actual ramrod was usually carried on a leather thong carried around the neck, so that it could not be dropped during reloading at sea or on horseback. The lock features a swan neck cock, and it is fully functional. holding at half cock and firing at full.

Dating probably from the early 1800's this is spectacular and ready to display!!
