Item Description
Original Item: Only One available. Recently acquired from the estate of a prominent American collector this is a fantastic small French First Empire Napoleonic 11-pounder Bronze Howitzer with an engraved Royal Cypher. It is mounted on a modern static wood fortress mount for display purposes.
The Howitzer (not a mortar as the trunions are in the center of the tube whereas a mortar has the trunions located at the base of the tube) is constructed of solid bronze and weighs approximately 300 lbs. It measures approximately 23 inches in overall length from the end of the cascabel to the muzzle and has a 4.5" bore indicating that it is an 11-pounder Demi-Culverin per the Tower of London Classification of Bore Diameter chart.
The design features five bands and a raised touch hole with centered trunions, a swamped muzzle and cascabel. Above the touch hole is an engraved Napoleon Royal Cypher. Overall condition is very good, with a clear touch hole and powder chamber, the exterior of the tube shows dings, scratches and a mottled Bronze patina.
