The French OF37 was a French Pre-WWII design hand "offensive" type hand grenade. It was put into service in 1937 together with DF 37 defensive hand grenades. Both grenades were typically used with Mle 1935 fuse while later variations used both Mle 1935 and new F3 and F5 fuses (which make the grenade look different). Visually OF 37 differs from DF 37 in that the body of OF 37 consists of two parts, while DF 37 has a solid body.
This grenade is a wonderful wooden training type with nearly all original yellow and red paint retained. The grenade itself does appear to have been carved by hand and was most likely made as a “unit internal” type. There are no markings visible on any component of the grenade. The spoon is held onto the “fuse” by what appears to be a single pin which causes it to move near freely and feels delicate to touch.
A great example ready for further research and display .
