The mine was never filled with any explosive content and was used as a training device in the East German military. This mine is totally empty and is in complete compliance per the current standards on inert ordnance.

The PPM-2 is a plastic bodied Anti-Personnel (AP) blast mine developed and built in the former East Germany. The mine has an unusual piezoelectric fuze, electric detonator and an arming delay system. The two halves of the body screw together, sealed by a rubber O-ring. Around the circumference are two attachment lugs to which belt clips may be fitted. The pressure plate is internally ribbed, with a removable foil detector ring and a central hemispherical plunger bearing on the fuze assembly. The lower half of the mine retains the fuze assembly and an annular main charge, held in place by a plastic strip and a single screw. Set to one side is the safety and arming mechanism, which consists of a lead-shear delay retained by a safety pin. The tip of the safety pin, which enters the mine through the side O-ring, also makes an electrical connection to short circuit the piezo fuze. The delay mechanism forms a second short circuit. The electric detonator is an unusual design, using a spark gap rather than a bridge wire, and has a single protruding terminal. It lies in a cutout in the TNT block, retained in place by two conducting rubber clips attached to the safety and arming mechanism. The PPM-2 is black, with markings embossed onto the base.

This is a wonderful example of a seldom seen Anti-Personnel mine from the German Democratic Republic! Comes more than ready for further research and display.
