Original German WWI Trench Shield

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic WW1 German Trench Shield constructed from steel that measures approximately 18 inches tall by 24 inches wide. Shields which were utilized by all sides (in various styles) and became noticed in trench ware in 1915. These shields were portable, weighing at between 20 to 30 pounds and had a close-able peephole for firing. This German version weighs 30 pounds, the firing loophole is 2 inches by 6 inches and has a functional sliding door. The shield itself was made from a silicon nickel steel and is .23 inches thick and could stop machine gun fire at 100 yards. However, with the advent of armor piercing shells, this armor became less effective. Therefore, heavier and thicker shields were developed in 1916 and 1917, where the weight increased to 50 pounds and had a thickness of .4 inches. This example is offered in very good condition but shows age and outdoor storage wear. WIll display beautifully for any Great War collection.
