Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely example of a rare Deutsche Christen (German Christians) membership badge from the Third Reich period. This was a relatively small movement of northern German Protestant supporters, together trying to influence the election of local Bishops. The badge measures 21mm in diameter, and features multi-colored enamel work on the obverse. This shows a central "sunwheel" style swas (hook cross) in black, on a white field, which has a pebbled translucent red enamel border around it with Deutsche Christen on the bottom. Super imposed over the swas is a large Christian cross.
The reverse of the badge is maker marked PAULMANN & CRONE/ LÜDENSCHEID, a known maker of this rare badge, and there is also GES. GESCH., which is short for Gesetzlich Geschützt (Protected by Law), indicating the design is registered with the German trademark office. In the center there is a very nice safety pin style attachment, which could work with most types of clothing.
Condition is very good, with much of the original gilt finish still present. Ready to display!
