Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice German WWII Heer Army Flak Battery commemorative plaque, made from metal components mounted on a black painted wooden backing. It measures about 15"H x 11 5/8"W with a hanger loop on the top. The metal plaque bolted to it measures a relatively large 11"H x 7 3/8"W, and itself is inset with a 4 1/8" medallion / table medal showing a Flak Artillery Team in action. At the bottom of the round insert is the phrase Flak-Geschütz-Feuer (Anti-Aircraft Gun Fire). Surrounding this are embossed oak leaf and acorn motifs, a classic German ornamentation.
There is an engraved metal plaque at the bottom surrounded by a laurel leaf, which reads:
Unserem verehrten Batterie-Chef
zur Erinnerung
v.d. 1. Res. Flak. Abt. 182.
This translates roughly to "Our Honored Battery Chief, in memory of the 1st Battery, 182nd Reserve Flak Detachment." Presentation plaques like this were relatively common, and were a way for the battery to show their appreciation for their superior. It is possible that they were being promoted, and the battery members wanted them to have something to remember them by.
A very nice commemorative plaque from a Flak Battery, presented to their chief. Ready to research and display!
