Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an nice war used example of a WWI German Kriegsmarine Navy Unteroffiziere mit Portepee (Senior NCO's) tropical field tunic, with a great set of Feldwebel epaulettes installed. The tunic itself is made of a medium weight field gray/green cotton, and shows only light wear from use and service. These were used in tropical areas where the temperatures were higher, so they do not have any of the insulation seen on the cold weather tunics. There is no major tearing, fraying, and so forth.
The front closes with four standard gold Kriegsmarine buttons, which are maker marked on the back, and match the buttons on the four pockets. There is a great Kriegsmarine metal eagle over the right pocket, which still has much of the original gold wash. The Schulterklappen (Epaulettes) are navy blue with a single row of wide gold around the edge, and a single rank "pip". This indicates the Unteroffiziere mit Portepee (NCO with Portepee) rank of Feldwebel, roughly equivalent to a Petty Officer First class in the U.S. Navy. This is a generalized rank in the Kriegsmarine, and the sailor would have a more specific rank attached to their function. Without any corps or specialization insignia, we are not able to tell what their correct rank designation was.
There is no lining for this type of tunic, and it is mostly unmarked except for what looks to be a name by the neck, which we cannot make out. Under the button flap on the right side, there is the size information, as well as a faint maker marking, which looks to read SCHLOSSERSCHER BAUMWOLL (fitted cotton) on the top line. We cannot make out the other lines, as they are too faint.
Condition is very good, with a lot of the original color retained, and the fabric only shows light wear. There are no tears or major damage, and the only alteration is the hemming in the sleeves to make them slightly shorter.
Overall a very nice Kriegsmarine NCO Tropical Field Tunic, ready dress up with insignia or display as is!
