Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an interesting used example of a Luftwaffe M43 Einheitsmütze Wool field cap, with a lovely lightly worn look. The cap is constructed of Fliegerblau (Flyer's Blue) blue/grey Luftwaffe wool, but this example has had the "fold down" skirt for colder weather completely removed, with the buttons gone as well. We are unsure when or why this was done.
The peak of the cap has a very nice machine embroidered cap eagle, with the correct light silver gray thread on a blue gray backing. Below & under this is a BeVo embroidered tri-color cockade with the correct color diamond shaped backing. Both are correctly only sewn to the outer layer of fabric, so they are definitely original to the cap. The interior of the cap is lined with a blue gray rayon material, which is standard for this type of cap. It has light sweat stains around the front edge, showing some use, but it still has the original manufacture information stamped on the inside of the crown:
0/0629/0003
1944 58
This indicates 1944 manufacture in Size 58. The visor is still in good condition, though it does have a crack in the stiffener in the middle, very common to see on these caps, which used cardboard. This gets brittle over time and breaks easily unfortunately.
Overall condition is fair, showing light wear and no major damage from mothing or use. This is the first we have seen with the flaps removed. We are unsure why this was done, but it does give the cap a unique look.
A lovely example, ready to add to your collection!
