Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This an incredible excellent condition example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe Flag Car / Automobile / Vehicle Fender Wimpel (Pennant) used for the vehicles of high ranking officers and their staff. There is no frame inside this pennant, so it would fly freely when attached to the mounting staff on the vehicle.
The pennant measures 13 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches and is double sided. It is gold-yellow (goldgelb) in color, with a heavy intricately embroidered Luftwaffe eagle on each side. There also is a very nice silver threaded border around the entire perimeter of the flag. The gold-yellow color is the German Luftwaffe Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) for Aviator troops (pilots and ground personnel) as well as Fallschirmjaeger (parachute troops).
There looks possibly at some time to have been some words / letters attached or painted onto the Pennant surrounding the swas (hook cross) under the eagle, but we cannot make out what was once there.
Condition is very good, especially considering the age, though there definitely is wear around the border, and some pulls and holes in the yellow body of the pennant. Yellow Luftwaffe pennants such as these are extremely rare, and this is the first example that we have ever had. Ready to display!
