Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Now this is something we have only had several of before: an original German WWII Schutzstaffel (SS) typewriter! This is most likely a ROBUST model, made by Olympia Büromaschinenwerke AG. Erfurt (Olympia Office Machine Works Co). There is also the script logo Olympia on the typewriter itself, which is marked on the bottom with serial number 403522, which is only TWO away from another we had. The typewriter seems functional and intact, though we have no ribbon so we are unable to test it. Originally gray, it was repainted black at some point.
Now, the question most have is "what makes this an SS typewriter?". That would be the "shift" position shown on the machines key for 5, which is the double Sig rune emblem of the SS: ᛋᛋ. It looks like this typewriter saw service post war, so the key was partly defaced, but it was cleaned off and the symbols are still visible. Unfortunately the striker on the end of the type bar did have the runes removed, a typical way to "sanitize" the typewriter for continued use.
The typewriter came to us in a custom made post war case, which looks to be made from plywood. It fits the typewriter well, though it does not have the proper padding and locking clips that the original would have. It has a locking key on the front, and measures 14" x 14" x 6".
This is a great opportunity to own a rare piece of military office equipment, still in very nice condition. Ready to add to your collection and display!
