Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This was originally a red painted collection can used to raise funds for the Red Cross in Germany during WW2. These were designed to be tamper proof with slot for coins, hole for rolled paper money and place for a padlock. The can is maker marked on the bottom by Westermann & Co. / Neheim-Ruhr.
This can looks to have been painted gray, possibly post war, but the original red paint can still be seen in places. It has had a paper "Red Cross" label applied, which also serves to cover up the original Gau Niederdonau marking for the "Lower Danube" administration of NSDAP ruled Austria. Most likely this can continued service into the post war years, and covering up the NSDAP name was definitely desirable.
Measures approximately 7"H x 4"W.
