Original German WWII Ribbed Wood Handle Trench Fighting Knife with Steel Boot Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Fitted with a single-edged spear-point blade, this is an original fighting knife, as used by the Germans in WWI and then again in WWII. In nice used condition, this knife has a ribbed wooden grip secured by two rivets. Grip scales are in good condition, with no cracks or major chips, and a nice dark color, and are of the more angular design usually seen with WWII era manufacture. As with most of the examples we have seen with grooved grips, the knife has a simplified "S" shaped cross guard, while most smooth grip versions have a minimal cross guard. The bottom cross guard has however broken off.

The blade is full length on the bottom of the blade, while the top has a false edge. The blade is in very good condition, and does not show much use or sharpening, and still has a lot of the factory machining marks visible on the blade body. Overall length is 10 inches with a 5 1/2 inch blade. No markings are present on the ricasso or crossguard, which is standard.

The knife comes in an genuine rolled steel WWII steel scabbard with a spring steel "boot" clip on the back, which would allow attachment to the the side of a boot or to a belt. This style of attachment extends above the scabbard body, and would clip around the belt. It could also be used to hold onto other parts of the uniform, like the belt, with pressure alone. The finish on the scabbard is good, but worn overall, with a great "service worn" patina.

No visible markings but 100% original, a very example for display in any quality German edged weapons collection.
