Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice original service worn M1938 Beaded Luftschutz Gladiator German helmet. The exterior of this German helmet retains about 90% of the original dark blue paint, with overall wear, with some chipping and oxidation. The helmet still has all three of the original split pin rivets, with nearly complete paint. The interior paint is a bit worse for wear, and looks to have been exposed to moisture, so there is oxidation and paint bubbling in areas. The Luftschutz decal on the front is present and 80% complete, with a few missing areas and some scuffing in areas.
The inner skirt is faintly maker marked with stamping into the steel with RL2 39 / 21. These markings would seem to indicate that the helmet was made in 1939, though we do not know if any records were kept of the maker. It may be that it was made under a 1938 contract. Unfortunately the normal paint or decal markings that would usually be below these are completely missing.
The liner in this helmet is made from leather over a fiber band, and unfortunately is quite deteriorated. Much of the liner leather is cracked and dry rotted, and complete sections are missing, as shown. The chinstrap however is still intact, though it does have wear to the finish and light cracking.
Overall a very good German WWII M38 Luftschutz helmet with a nice decal. Ready to add to your collection and display!
