W. Winfield spent considerable time in 1944 and in 1946 at Berchtesgaden, the Obersalzberg and the Eagles Nest on the Kelstein, and had lunch and sat for a considerable time on the veranda at the Eagles Nest in the picture in this book marked "Eagles Nest - lookout into the mountains" (3rd page from the end). There are 39 photos in this book, all original!! In 1994 I took a piece of the face stone from the front deck, called the "Eva deck". I also have a wooden beam - Tie from AH's guest house at Obersalzberg. This book is fully documented by Geo. Henderson's family, Christi's auction house and Sparr's appraisal service - Herr Peltz also presented to Col. Henderson with a NSDAP Swas embroidered Linen table cloth that was used on tables in AH's Obersalzberf home and was included with and purchased with the souvenir book.
The book was original presented to Lt. Col. George Henderson U.S. Army Commanding at Berchtesgaden, Germany in 1945 and was hand made by Herr Erhard Peltz, a member of AH’s house staff and Col. Henderson's house servant. It features 39 original photos taken by Herr Peltz. It is a photo album of AH's accommodations as well as a few of Göring's home and the Eagle Nest both during construction and after allied capture. The photos are accompanied by captions (in English) in a white paint-like calligraphic hand. Color photo on front cover is scuffed and the spine cease is lightly torn but solid and connected. Blue pebbled paper-covered boards show minor scuffing. This book is one-of-a-kind because it was handmade, however, other similar copies are known to exist with different photos and a different number of photos. Regardless, this is a very very rare book.
