Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a totally original authentic German WWII Wehrmacht Heer Army Camp Flag, measuring a nice displayable 35" x 50". It was captured in the field, and then was signed by 7 people along with their hometowns, probably the soldiers that found it. It was very common for servicemen to have the members of their company sign items to bring home as a memento.
The names and locations on this flag are:
J.T. MIRAGLIA
Baltimore MD
JOE TUL
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO
FRANK M. ZUZGA
CAMPBELL, OHIO
FRANK. TERLECKI
YOUNGSTOWN. Ohio.
HARVEY H. KERL
ST. PAUL, MINN.
LOU VOWINKEL
Pitt. PA.
Cliff Shall
Akron, Ohio
This was purchased recently at a military auction, and came with the following note:
WWII GERMAN NDSAP PARTY BANNER- 35" WIDE x 49" LONG- SWAS ON ONE SIDE ONLY. - SIGNED BY 7 MEN WHO CAPTURED IT AND JOE MARAGLIA THE KID I GOT IT FROM AT 3306 ELLERSLIA AVE. BALTO. MD.
This is unfortunately the only information we received with this flag, and unfortunately do not know what unit that these men were a member of. We leave this as an excellent research opportunity.
The design of the camp flag is essentially a smaller version of the standard NSDAP party flag, with a large Swas (Hook Cross or Swas) in the center of a white circle on a red field. This example looks to be made of linen and cotton, the standard materials for flags of the period.
Condition is very good, with the expected age toning, and a few small stains. The construction is multi-piece, with a sewn on white circle on one side, with a multi-piece black swas sewn on.
A very nice USGI Captured German flag, ready research and display!
