This is a very scarce WWII German Propaganda poster promoting the WHN Lottery, which was started to raise money for the Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes, or Winter Relief of the German People, an annual donation drive by the National Socialist People's Welfare (Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt) to help finance charitable work. Initially an emergency measure to support people during the Great Depression, it went on to become a major source of funding for the activities of the NSV and a major component of Germany's welfare state. Donations to the WHW, which were voluntary in name but de facto required of German citizens, supplanted tax-funded welfare institutions and freed up money for rearmament.

The poster features a smiling lottery ticket salesman holding three 50 pfennig tickets for the National German Lottery with a prize of 1 million Reichsmarks. The top of the poster reads KRIEGSWINTERHILFE-LOTTERIE which translates to Winter War Aid Lottery. The insert text reads In jeder Serie 885000 Gewinne und 103 Prӓmien which translates to In Each Series 885,000 Winnings and 103 Bonuses.

The 23 ¼" x 33” poster is in fantastic condition overall with just the basic folding marks from storage, and some tiny rips and holes along the folding more toward the center. The poster has very few flaws and would look fantastic in a frame. 

This is an extremely scarce WWII German propaganda poster, the first of its type we have seen, meant to coerce German citizens into buying lottery tickets to win their way out of monetary struggles. Comes ready for further research and display.
