Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice service used condition, turn of the century Imperial German pickelhaube Fire helmet, made with the standard boiled leather body, possibly reinforced with a fiber or paper interior. It is a single piece design, with additional components added to the main shell. The helmet is fit all in brass, with the characteristic Bavarian "Lion" chin strap bosses, a brass top comb, and brass trim on the front and rear visors.
The central plate (wappen) has a large S in the middle on a red field, with background symbols of the profession including crossed axes, ladder and ropes. The letter would indicate the roll of the wearer, though we are unfortunately not able to determine the meaning in this case. This looks to be an EM/NCO helmet, as it does not have any of the fancy appointments seen on an officer helmet, and has a plain leather chinstrap and multi-finger leather liner.
This is an unusual and very attractive item. Offered in very good condition. Size is not marked but we estimate it to be 54-56 cm.
