Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This German Military bugle is of all brass construction with brass fittings, typical of German brass instruments. Showing use, it bears substantial dents with some scrapes but is absolutely authentic. It comes complete with its original mouth piece and two suspension rings and with a pleasant tarnished finish overall. It even still has the original leather sling for carrying the bugle.
The brass mouthpiece is unfortunately seized in the receiver, and the mouthpiece securing chain is missing. However, the bugle still plays quite nicely, and is tuned to the key of C, the usual key for German bugles of this age.
The Prussian Coat of Arms in an Oval shield displays a Spread Eagle wearing a Crown with F.R. (Friedrich Rex) to center, for King Friedrich I of Prussia. The eagle is holding a Sword and a Sceptre in either claw. Below this is a partly clear maker marking, which was "double stamped":-
C.W. MEISEL SENIOR
KLINGENTHAL i/S 1[91]5
The date is faint, but we have found other bugles from this same maker, and are confident that the last number is a 5, for 1915 manufacture. the "i/S" stands for "in Sachsen", or "in Saxony", not to be confused with the Klingenthal in the Alsace region of France, long contested between France and Germany.
A romantic item from the terrible First World War, ready to display or use!
