Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a totally original authentic Imperial German WWI Naval Jack Flag, with a large Eisernes Kreuz (Iron Cross) in the center of the field, which is the red, white, and black Imperial "State Colors". The flag is made of cotton or linen, the standard material for flags of the period.
The flag does not have a separate header, but is reinforced at the top corner with additional fabric. There are several small tie strips on the reinforced side, for tying the flag to the "Jack Staff". This is a small vertical spar (pole) on the bow of a ship or smaller vessel on which this particular type of flag, known as a jack, is flown. The jack staff was introduced in the 18th century. The jack is typically flown from military vessels, including submarines, while at anchor or moored pierside, but not while underway.
This flag is in very good condition, with age toning and the expected small tears and holes from being over 100 years in age. A great addition to any WWI Naval collection!
