Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of an Imperial German EM/NCO Visor Cap (Schirmmütze), in the early 20th Century Dunkelblau style. The later M1907/1910 version would move to the Feldgrau (Fieldgray) that was seen mostly during the war. The cap constructed of black wool. It has Ponceaurot (poppy red) piping, and a Schwarz (black) velvet cap band, indicating issue to an Artillery Officer, per corps color reference materials. The front of the cap has a nice visor, which looks to be made of pressed leather.
There is a Tri-Color Reichskokarde on the front of the cap which has lost its paint, so only the red felt center is colorful. There is no state cockade. The interior is lined with very nice purple silk or rayon, with a black oil cloth sweatband. There is a size written on the interior, 7. The maker’s mark on the crown reads:
Heinrich Ehrlich
Mützenfabrikant
FOBTH b/Nürnberg
Condition is fair, with colors well retained, but heavy wear to the exterior with some discoloration on the crown. The front visor does show wear and deterioration, with the usual checking and cracking from age. The interior lining is very nice, though the oilcloth sweatband is very torn up and worn, being over 100 years in age.
Quite attractive and ready to display!
