Original Imperial Japan WWII Era Kanji Marked Large Silver Sakazuki Dish Featuring Imperial Seal of Japan - Chrysanthemum Seal

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful example of an “Imperial Palace” silver Sakazuki dish featuring the Chrysanthemum Seal. Sakazuki are ceremonial cups used most commonly at weddings and other special occasions such as tea ceremonies, but larger versions of sakazuki also exist, just like this example here. Featured in the bowl portion of the IMperial Seal of Japan. The Imperial Seal of Japan or National Seal of Japan, also called the Chrysanthemum Seal , Chrysanthemum Flower Seal or Imperial Chrysanthemum emblem is the crest used by the Emperor of Japan and members of the Imperial Family.

It is one of the national seals of Japan and is used in a manner similar to a national coat of arms of Japan, e.g., on Japanese passports. The Japanese government uses a different emblem, the Paulownia seal.

The sakazuki is in wonderful condition and presents itself with a lovely tarnished appearance and no extensive damage. The details are still crisp and easily discernible and the Kanji characters can still be read, making for a wonderful translation project. The dish measures 4 ¾” in diameter with a base width of 1 ¾”.

A wonderful item ready for further research and display.
